Independent technical marketing practice // no dashboard theater

Marketing Systems Should Make the Work Clearer.

Off Leash Marketer is for people expected to own the answer even when the data is fragmented, the workflow is fragile, and the platform insists everything is fine.

About the creator

I built this for marketers who want to build for themselves.

I am R. Garcia, the creator of Off Leash Marketer. I built this site to share what I know—and what I continue to learn—about marketing in the new AI era. A curious marketer can now analyze, automate, prototype, and solve problems that once required a larger team, another platform, or a much bigger budget.

This is not about spending thousands of dollars on a black-box “agent” and hoping it understands your business. It is about learning how the work actually functions, using AI as a practical collaborator, and building the tools, automations, measurements, and checks yourself. You should understand what you build well enough to question it, repair it, and make it better.

I hold an MBA and bring more than 20 years of marketing experience across small businesses, events, nonprofits, health practices, health tech, and SaaS across both sales-led and product-led growth. Data and analytics are my deepest specialties: I turn complex information into clear definitions, focused strategies, and practical decisions that can actually be carried out. From that measurement-first foundation, paid search is my strongest channel specialty, with programmatic, display, and paid social close behind. My work also sits inside the systems that carry those campaigns: GTM and GA4, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM, lifecycle operations, Apps Script and APIs, reporting, and Marketing Mix Modeling. The goal of every article is to share the useful part clearly enough that you can put it to work without buying another promise you cannot inspect.

The operating method

Four kinds of useful work.

Scroll through each lane to see what belongs in it.

01 // BUILD

Make the missing thing.

Useful calculators, templates, scripts, and lightweight tools that solve a specific marketing problem without adding another bloated platform.

02 // AUTOMATE

Remove the fragile handoff.

HubSpot workflows, lifecycle operations, Apps Script, APIs, and practical systems for work that should not depend on memory or copy-and-paste.

Explore Automation
03 // MEASURE

Make the evidence inspectable.

GTM, analytics, campaign governance, dashboards, attribution, and Marketing Mix Modeling with assumptions that can be checked and challenged.

Explore Measurement
04 // MARKET

Put the system to work.

Paid search, SEO, lifecycle, CRM, experimentation, and content shaped by what actually happens after a campaign meets a real customer journey.

Why the dog?

Theo keeps the work off leash—not off task.

Theo is my loyal companion and the heart behind the brand. He has been beside me through long workdays, difficult problems, and the quiet stretches when building something worthwhile takes patience. Here, he is also a gentle reminder to stay curious, follow the useful trail, and never confuse a polished interface with a solved problem. He makes the work feel lighter—and technical marketing considerably less beige.

Editorial standard

What you should expect here.

No hidden assumptions

Make the assumptions visible.

Inputs, definitions, tradeoffs, and limitations should be visible enough to challenge.

No advice without a check

Leave something you can test.

Recommendations should lead to something you can inspect, calculate, test, or reproduce.

No fake certainty

Let the evidence set the limit.

Unknowns stay unknown until the evidence earns a stronger conclusion.
